Kihei Public Library is hosting a special author signing event. Let’s show some aloha to Nico Lang, award-winning LGBTQ+ reporter and editor, who is visiting Maui to raise awareness about the issues transgender teens are facing today.

Their book, American Teenager, comes from years of travel and interviews with this vulnerable population. The book will be made available at the event. Registration is not mandatory but it helps us plan, so if you’re interested, help us out by hitting the RSVP below. Mahalo; we’ll see you there!

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. All visitors 18 years and older must sign our waiver.

A parent or legal guardian must sign the waiver for any child 17 years or younger.

We require one adult for every two children under the age of 15.

Cat-themed socks are available for purchase in our gift shop if needed.

Respect names and pronouns — and correct yourself without making it about you when you mess up.

Speak up against transphobia in conversations, workplaces, schools, and online spaces.

Advocate for inclusive policies in healthcare, education, housing, and employment.

Create safer spaces where trans people feel affirmed, believed, and protected.

Challenge harmful stereotypes and misinformation when you encounter them.

Support trans-led organizations and initiatives with your time, resources, and visibility.

Respect privacy — never out someone without their consent.

Practice empathy and solidarity, especially during times of increased discrimination or violence.
